June 25, 1876 was the day of Lt Col Custer's Last Stand as he and his men were defeated by Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull and the Lakota Sioux tribe. (About an hour's drive from Sheridan)
More western history: this national monument preserves the site of the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn. It serves as a memorial to those who fought in the battle: Lakota-Northern Cheyenne and Arapahoe warriors and General Custer and his 7th Calvary. (approximately 1.5 hour drive to the site.)
A scenic, two hour drive, east over the Bighorn mountains to I-90 N, will bring you to where, on June 25, 1876, Gen (Bev.) George A. Custer was defeated by members of the Plains Indian tribes. Small museum, bookstore, restrooms, and ample parking. Also a National Cemetery is here. During summer, living history Interpreters give talks and display arms and dress of both sides. Self guided tours with bar coded stops, which will play through your cell phone or newer vehicle radios. If really into history, expect to spend the day. Thesis of battle and cemetery are open year round.
