Described by the Spaniards as the gates of hell, the craters that comprise Volcán Masaya National Park are the most easily accessible active volcanoes in the country. The two volcanoes at the park, Masaya and Nindirí, together comprise five craters. Of these, Cráter Santiago is still very active and bubbling with red-hot lava. The park entrance is just 7km from Masaya on the Managua highway and most tour operators in Granada run evening trips to the crater.

Masaya Volcano National Park is a must-see! It’s an easy half-day trip from Granada. Standing near the edge of the crater and seeing the lava splashing inside is an experience you won’t forget!
The Masaya Volcano National Park is one of the most popular tourism attraction in the Pacific region of Nicaragua. DAYTIME VISIT: The park open to the public for the daily visit everyday at 9 AM, and until 4:45 PM. Visitors can go to the main gate located in Masaya-Managua road, from where they will be registered and will get the instruction to buy their tickets. It is not necessary to make a reservation. This visit has an entrance fee of C$100 for foreigners visitors and C$30 for Nicaraguans. NIGHT VISIT: Everyday, since sunset, the nocturnal visit of the Masaya Volcano starts. This visit is also available without reservation, from 5 PM to around 8 PM, depending on the visitors flows.
