The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is a heritage railroad based in Cumberland, Maryland that operates passenger excursion trains and occasional freight trains using both steam and diesel locomotives over ex-Western Maryland Railway tracks between Cumberland and Frostburg.
you can take the scenic railroad to Frostburg and back for a lovely day-trip. It's also fun to just watch the steam train pull in. This is at the start of the C&O Canal (a great walk or bike ride). This is also the point at which President Washington declared be the start of the USA's very first highway (now known as National Road/Pike or Historic Route 40).
