Cruising across Portage Lake on the mv Ptarmigan, you'll stand just 300 yards from a relic of the Ice Age and watch for fractures of ice break off the glacier and crash into the water below.

Highly recommend if you’d rather opt out of a long glacier tour. It’s about a 50 minute, gorgeous drive, south of anchorage on the Seward highway, and then a 45 minute boat tour. The glacier views are amazing.
