The Passage is the only remaining example in the Netherlands of this type of covered shopping street, popular in major European and American cities during the 19th century.

A unique covered shopping gallery built in 1882, with a sister-building in Brussels. Here you can find specialty and upmarket fashion shopping. Check out the outdoor cafes just outside on Buitenhof

“Duivenvoorde estate is situated between The Hague and Leiden. It is photogenic. Not just the centuries-old castle, but also the park surrounding it is worth mentioning. It's a green oasis of calm in the middle of the crowded urban agglomeration.”

“Mesdag was an excellent painter. He painted a panorama of scheveningen (the beach) which is housed in a purpose-built museum in The Hague. The panorama is a cylindrical painting (also known as a Cyclorama) more than 14 metres high and about 40 metres in diameter (120 metres in circumference). From an observation gallery in the centre of the room the cylindrical perspective creates the illusion that the viewer is on a high sand dune overlooking the sea, beaches and village of Scheveningen in the late 19th century. A foreground of fake terrain around the viewing gallery hides the base of the painting and makes the illusion more convincing.”

“This is the working palace of the King and Queen. It is modest, but beautiful, in the middle of a pretty nice, but expensive, street with boutique shops.”
