The famous "Big Tree" is a popular attraction and one of our large indigenous Cape Yellowwoods. Pop up tot he Diepwalle tearoom afterwards and the museum to see the skeleton of one of the last remaining bull elephants that lived in the Knysna forest
If you want to see one of the last and probably the biggest remaining forest giants, then make a trip out to the Big Tree. The tree has some history associated dating back to 1900's. It is a 15km drive on a dirt road used for logging, so expect lots of corrugation and pot holes. It is recommended you have a SUV. There is also a small fee for entering, but probably only in peak season we suspect as it is not very well known any more. Alternatively make a stop at "The Garden of Eden" along the main road to Plettenbergbay. There are some very big trees in the small little 500m circle walk, but still a nice scenic walk in the forest.
