An odd, other-worldly feeling place that feels almost out of place, White Sands is one of the newest national parks in the United States. The beautiful scenery is made up of white gypsum sand and is fun to take sleds and go sand-sledding with kids. Taking walks and hikes on marked paths through the dunes provides a relaxing time away from most people who stay close to picnic areas. Sunsets at a grilling pit are magical and are always worth it. During the hottest months it is brutal during the daytime, but no matter when you go you want to make sure you have enough food and most importantly water! The sands don't offer much help in survival, so ensure you are ready to venture out on your walk through the dunes when you go!

One of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world's largest gypsum dunefield. It is completely enclosed by the White Sands Missile Range. Sledding, hiking, driving Dunes Drive, camping, and spectacular sunsets.

Like No Place Else on Earth! One of the World's Great Natural Wonders. Stop at the White Sands National Park Visitor Center to learn the local history and to get information and maps. Hiking is the best way to discover the park and White Sands has five trails to choose from. Dunes sledding is one of the top things to do in White Sands National Park.

White Sands is an incredible national park near Las Cruces, NM. It features a 275 square mile field of white sand dunes composed of gypsum crystals. It's a truly incredible place - an experience you've probably never had before unless you've been there. This is a bit farther from The Guad than the other locations on this list, but many of my guests visit White Sands either on the way into The Guad or on the way out. If you really wanted to get out early and make it a day trip from The Guad though, you could.
