The heart of the Catholic Church with St. Peter's Cathedral and the Vatican Museums is just 10 minutes walk from Maison Palomba!
Vatican City might be small in size, just over 100 acres about 1/8th the size of Central Park in New York, but it is huge when it comes to importance for the Roman Catholic Church. This is the smallest country in the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is the only current monarchy in Europe. Vatican City is governed entirely by the Pope. Here in this tiny country you will find the Vatican bank, post office, phone system, a radio, station, an ATM in Latin, guards (Swiss Army), gardens, a small railroad, a national flag, a national anthem, a football team, as well as St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican. What you won’t find are restaurants (except for 3 self-catering cafeterias in the Vatican), hospitals, primary or secondary schools, or hotels. You can find hotels and restaurants just outside of Vatican City, but not within the city-state’s boundaries.
