In recent years, the former industrial district has become one of Copenhagen’s hippest areas and a hub for creativity, alternative urban development, festivals and great foods of very different kinds. Easily reached by bike, bus or even harbour bus, the island is an integral part of the city but with its very own identity.
Refshaleøen is a great contrast to Copenhagen’s organised and busy streets and allows for the crooked and rough to exist. It’s a little far but worth the journey to go for breakfast and a swim by Banchina or Lille Bakery, or find your way out to amazing Copenhagen Contemporary and grab a bite and a drink at the street food market, Reffen.
Go explore an area full of art, street food, small shops and Lynetten - a nice little harbor
Refshaleøen is an old industrial area, once home to one of the world's largest shipyards, B&W. Today, Refshaleøen houses modern art, noisy music festivals and even some pretty good restaurants. Just a 15-minute bike ride from inner Copenhagen, you will find this peaceful gem with plenty of elbow room.
