What our hosts say

I'm a retired firefighter and my husband a retired crematory operator. Hosting is not an easy job, but it helps us rely less on the government for a pension, and I just love welcoming people to our place!
— Cathryn, Illawarra

Hosting on Airbnb became my lifeline after I lost my job. The income helps pay off the mortgage on what will be my retirement home. It’s long-term investment in my security and wellbeing.
— Geoff, Hepburn Springs

Hosting a room on top of my garage allowed me to work part time and be home more with my daughter when she was born. It helped us stay on top of our mortgage.
— Belinda, Preston
Event highlights
Learn about some of the events happening around Australia, benefiting from the expanded accommodation that Airbnb provides.

Central Queensland
Beef Australia
Beef Australia brought thousands to Rockhampton. Over a 227% lift in new Airbnb listings in the lead-up helped ensure guests were welcomed—and local residents shared in the benefits.

Townsville, Queensland
State of Origin
Townsville welcomed over 27,000 footy fans for the State of Origin opener. Local Hosts listed spare rooms and homes on Airbnb, helping the city meet last-minute demand while sharing their North Queensland pride.
To help us host the expected increase in visitation, we’ve been working with Airbnb to help locals list a room or a whole home with ease and take advantage of this economic opportunity that this international event presents for Central Queenslanders.
— Simon Irwin, Beef Australia CEO
