The Center was a great place to live. The house is beautiful, with a peaceful garden and a large meditation hall in the back. There are many rules in place which take a while to learn but keep the place clean and respectuf towards other residents, and I loved the emphasis on sustainability. Everyone living there was respectful and friendly, and any comment or question was addressed right away. Location is fantastic, very close to downtown and UC Berkeley campus. The house is not directly on the street, though it's close enough that you can hear some traffic noise with the windows open, but I'm a very light sleeper and didn't have any problem at night.

The house is very well located. Two blocks from Shattuck Ave. where there are several restaurants and grocery stores. The UC Berkeley campus is 15 minutes away by foot and so is the BART station (in the other direction). The house is very quiet and I found the people living there to be quite friendly even if we did not have so many occasions to interact with eachother. The room is spacious and the bed is quite comfortable. One can hear the traffic a little bit but I could sleep very well nonetheless. For those who might be wondering about the house rules, I found them completely reasonable and didn't have any problems "following" them as most of it is common sense when living with several people. I would definitely recommend the place to others, in fact I would hope to be able to stay here again if I ever have the opportunity to return to Berkeley.

Peaceful and relaxing place. The room was clean, fully furnished, and there was plenty of closet/storage space. The home is well-run and organized to accommodate guests and make them feel welcome. Easy walk to BART station and downtown Berkeley. I recommend this place.

'The Center for Transformative Change' is a beautiful place of peace and contemplation. All the residents either work related to the Center or are in same way connected to the same vibe of tranquility and buddhist philosophy. We have to admit that we were a little sceptic at first reading all the house rules and the rigid living arrangements but were soon convinced of its usefulness and the clever way of managing shared spaces, such as kitchen and bathroom. The residents, including a funny parrot and a cat, are very kind and immediately helped us feel comfortable. The room was very clean, reduced to the essential and has a comfortable bed. The house is situated very close to Downtown Berkeley, which was an ideal location in our case since we booked the room for 3 weeks while hunting for an apartment in Berkeley. Therefore we managed to walk everywhere or took the BART at Downtown Station. Once we found two apartment options, two residents (Otis and Christina), having a better feel for the town, helped us choose the right one that was far better located in terms of trending neighborhoods. We would recommend the place to our friends and family members if they were to come visit us in Berkeley first and foremost because it is quiet, clean and friendly but also because the price-performance ratio is really good!
